What exactly is Leaky Gut?

Over the past few weeks I’ve been talking a bit about Leaky Gut, so let’s dive in a little deeper.

Leaky gut syndrome is a digestive condition that affects the lining of the intestines. The lining of the gut becomes compromised and gaps in the intestinal walls allow bacteria and other toxins to pass into the bloodstream. This can lead to inflammation in the body, cause digestive discomfort and trigger food sensitivities.

The most common symptoms of Leaky Gut are:
– Food Sensitivities/Intolerances/Allergies
– Stomach Pain
– Diarrhoea
– Constipation
– Bloating
– Gas
– Nausea
– Headaches
– Brain Fog/Poor Focus
– Low Energy
– Nutritional Deficiencies
– Acne, Rashes, Eczema
– Joint Pain

What can cause Leaky Gut?
– Dysbiosis (imbalance of gut bacteria) eg: Candidiasis
– Mindless Eating (Eating quickly, not chewing enough)
– Eating Sugar & Refined Carbs
– Eating Gluten
– Eating Dairy
– Drinking Alcohol
– Taking Antibiotics
– Taking Oral Contraceptives (The Pill)
– Taking Pharmaceuticals
– Using Toxic Home & Beauty Products
– High Stress/Anxiety
