Today I want to talk to you about a topic I am so excited about sharing and promoting… Natural Beauty!
I believe that true beauty comes from within and in my opinion the prettiest girls are those with a beautiful soul. Have you ever met a girl where just her presence alone was beautiful? You know what I’m talking about, it’s like she’s surrounded by sunshine and her warm, genuine smile literally lights up the room! I have a few girlfriends like this and just being around them makes me feel so good! True beauty also comes from within because it honestly doesn’t matter how many products you lather and layer on top of your skin, if you’re not nourishing your body from the inside with clean, wholefoods you’re not going to be glowing from the outside!

My beauty background

When I was in my early teens I was extremely image conscious which stemmed from a lack of self-confidence and a whole bunch of insecurities. Unlike many other girls, I was very fortunate and never struggled with acne, however I still wouldn’t leave my house unless I had my “face” on. I had a fear of being seen as unattractive and I was terrified of anyone looking at me without make-up on… especially my boyfriend!

Back then I didn’t think twice about the ingredients in the beauty products I was using, as long as they worked I didn’t care! Every time I applied mascara my eyes would sting and stream, my perfume made me sneeze or break out in a rash and my hairspray gave me a headache but still I continued to use these products every day. It took me years to build up my confidence enough to be able to embrace my natural beauty and learn to love the skin I’m in. I completely stopped wearing make-up for a while and I couldn’t believe how much better my skin felt for it.

I changed my whole perspective on beauty and instead of feeling like I “had” to wear make-up every day I simply didn’t feel the need to put it on at all anymore! Of course I still wear make-up on occasion but I do it simply because it’s fun. I don’t know about you but I love trying new products, experimenting with different brushes and getting creative with a variety of colours and textures. Make-up really is an art and our bodies do make for a pretty awesome canvas!

It makes me so happy to see girls confidently rocking a completely natural look but of course there are times when make-up can make you feel like a total goddess and that’s totally okay too! Whatever approach you take to beauty is fine, the important thing to remember is that you are beautiful exactly as you are and if you do wear make-up, try to choose natural options!

Why choose natural beauty?

Unfortunately, most of the cosmetics we see on the shelves are laden with toxic chemicals that are really harmful to our bodies, the environment and sadly many are still tested on animals. For these reasons I consciously choose to use products that are as natural as possible, eco-friendly and cruelty free and I strongly encourage you to do the same babe!

Did you know that what we put onto our skin gets absorbed straight into our bloodstream? Don’t believe me? Just take a moment to think about how a nicotine patch works. It’s alarming to think that toxic chemicals are soaking into our body every time we lather on some lotion or spray perfume onto our skin. I don’t know about you but I’d rather not be covering my temple in toxins!

Once this junk is in our bloodstream our liver has to do some serious hard work to remove it from our system. These toxins can disrupt our hormones and irritate our skin. Isn’t it ironic to think that we use cosmetics to “fix” our skin and imperfections, yet it might just be the very thing causing our skin issues in the first place!
Unfortunately, just because the label says “Natural” or “Pure Ingredients” doesn’t always make it so and I know it can be really confusing to try and figure out which ingredients are safe, so to make it a bit easier let me give you a piece of advice… if you can’t pronounce it or you’re staring at a whole lot of numbers it’s probably not a natural or safe ingredient and I urge you to stay clear!
So that you’re aware of exactly which harmful toxins to avoid, here’s a list of the most common chemicals found in main stream cosmetics:

How to choose natural beauty products that will actually work!
Now that you’re empowered with this knowledge I hope you will make a conscious decision to choose safe cosmetic products. I know it’s scary to see just how many toxins are lurking in the products you use on a daily basis but I don’t want you to feel overwhelmed. You might be thinking that there’s no possible way you can avoid every single one of these chemicals and trying to find natural alternatives is a daunting thought.

Don’t worry, I’m here to help The great news is that natural beauty products can actually be very nourishing and healing for your skin, which is why I highly recommend that you use them instead. I’ll be writing about my favorite, natural products in future articles but in the meantime here’s a few things you can do to get started…

My Top 10 Tips:

  1. Do an assessment of the products you are currently using – If you’re products are loaded with toxins I strongly urge you to get rid of them asap! If that seems too extreme, then simply start by slowly changing over to natural products as your other products run out.
  2. Investigate – Do your research and read lots of reviews.
  3. Be experimental – Test and trial as many different products as you can.
  4. Choose products that have natural ingredients and are certified organic.
  5. Read the label and avoid any nasties!
  6. Make sure to use products that are eco-friendly.
  7. Always choose products that are cruelty free.
  8. Give your skin a break from make-up as often as you can.
  9. Always remove your make-up before going to bed.
  10. Remember that true beauty starts from within.

For a truly beautiful, radiant complexion the work has to start from within. I want to encourage you to nourish your skin from the inside out with the healthiest foods possible and support it from the outside with the most natural products available.
