How To Have Healthy, Shiny, Long & Luscious Hair

If you’ve been longing to know how to have healthy and shiny hair or find out how to grow your hair longer and stronger, this is the article for you! I’ll be sharing my personal hair care routine, the products I use plus my top tips on how to have luscious locks. Get excited beauty because your hair is about to have an all-natural make-over! Okay, lets dive in…

When it comes to beauty, I always say that true beauty comes from the inside out! The outside reflects what’s going on, on the inside. If your body is not getting the essential nutrients, vitamins and minerals it needs to make healthy new cells then how can you expect to radiate health and beauty on the outside. If your body is holding onto stress or trying to process a high volume of toxins in your system, boy-oh-boy it’s going to show. Once you get the inside right, the outside will fall into place. In other words, when you nourish your body in the best ways possible (on all levels), you naturally glow on the outside!

When I was in my teens and trying to find my identity, I coloured my hair from blonde to black, then brown to red and eventually back to blonde. I started out with the healthiest, shiniest, natural-blonde, hair that so many girls dream of having and did a fantastic job of destroying it over a period of a few years! I remember going to see multiple hairdressers, all of which refused to colour my hair from virgin-blonde to black (now I don’t blame them!)…. but being the headstrong, determined girl I was, I decided to do it myself, with highly toxic packet dyes. I remember my Mom saying to me, “Your hair is the crown you never take off, so look after it and wear it with pride”. That little saying only truly sunk in for me years later. I eventually found myself and as my confidence grew, I learned how to take care of my body in the best ways possible and embrace my natural beauty. Now I frequently get compliments on my mane and have been asked many times how I get my hair to be so soft and shiny, so I thought I would share my personal hair care routine with you.

My Personal Hair Care Routine:

  • I wash my hair 1-2 times per week and allow it to dry naturally. (As it starts to look a little greasy, I just put it up in a slick, high pony or ballet bun)
  • I massage hair oil into the ends and mid-lengths of my hair daily to keep it well hydrated.
  • I braid my hair every night before I go to bed to avoid damage as my head rubs against my pillow during the night.
  • I do a hair mask once a week.
  • I get my hair cut every 8-10 weeks. This helps it to stay healthy by cutting off any split/dead ends to avoid further breakage or damage.

Products I Use & Love:

  • I LOVE the entire range by Everescents Organic Haircare. I only use natural, certified organic and toxin-free products and these guys tick all the boxes for me, plus their products are salon quality and give stunning results!
  • I like to use the Hydrating Hair Mask by Hello Hair.
  • I use coconut oil, argan oil or oil of Marrakesh for my ends.
  • I take the JS Health Hair & Energy Supplements, developed by nutritionist Jessica Sepel. The key ingredient in these supplements is Zinc! Zinc is an essential trace mineral which helps to maintain normal healthy hair, skin and nails.
  • I put Collagen Powder in my tea. I love Great Lakes Gelatin or Vida Glow Marine Collagen.

My Top Tips For Luscious Locks:

  • Stop colouring your hair!!! For a few years I was getting a full head of foils put in my hair, at an organic hair salon every 6 months or so but decided to stop colouring my hair completely after my wedding in July 2020. I love my natural colour and now my highlights come from spending time in the sun.
  • Stop blow drying, curling, or straitening your hair!!! I don’t use any heating tools on my hair unless I’m going to a special event. If I do, I use the Heat Protecting Serum by Everescents Organic Haircare in my hair first, before applying any heat.
  • Rub rosemary essential oil into the roots of your hair and on your scalp (while wet) if you want your hair to grow quicker. This helps to stimulate hair growth!
  • Don’t put your hair in the ocean too frequently! I swim in the ocean almost every day over summer, but I don’t always put my head under as I find the salt water really damages my hair by drying it out. If you do put your head under, rinse as soon as possible with clean, freshwater.
  • Don’t use a brush with wire or metal bristles as this can snap or break your hair off.
